Life By The Sea

The P Johnson Men's Spring Summer '27 collection comes from our beloved life by the sea and begins with our August drop detailed here. The collection is anchored (pardon the pun) by two new upbeat, lightweight jackets.

The Hendy is a splash back to the playful colours we tie to the sea; sails, bags, ropes and the language of visibility yet altogether knocked-back by the years of sun and salt. Named for the original Ironman Trevor Hendy, the jacket is stripped out to a custom woven mesh half-liner, herringbone tapings, venting, drawcord and is fashioned from an enzyme washed and softened cotton canvas. The Hendy is the perfect beach jacket and comes in a lobster red, a buttery Hansa yellow and a traditional navy.

The SB jacket takes its name from the Sydney Buster - that assertive Sou’-Easter driving a cool rod through Sydney in Spring. It is made in the single perfect nutty colour of a very fine Japanese cotton twill that has been gently napped to calm its surface. It is completely unlined, extremely lightweight and features a contrast collar in chocolate corduroy, a contrast drawcord and two way zip covered by a split weather-covered placket (also backed in corduroy). Think of it as a summer driving jacket for barrelling around in the Mini Moke with the P Johnson Carpenter shorts and a pair of beat up espadrilles.

The Lamu shirt re-appears this time in a Spanish made super-light seersucker dyed naturally with indigo, staging it for a life of gorgeous patina. With four pleated and shell-buttoned chest pockets that are dressed with stunning hand sewn bar tack details this shirt conjures images of Errol Flynn doing what he did - “oh Errol, I would give anything just to be like you..”.

If Errol was a little soft around the edges for you, the new Alby shirt encapsulates the restless legs of the most avid Australian hard-nut filmmaker Alby Mangels (though judging by the bikini’d ‘Sheilas’ that followed him around, his legs weren’t his most restless limb type…). Alby has oversized twin chest pockets to carry all your favourite rocks and is fashioned from the most familiar of denim blue poplins and a slightly sharper dark navy.

A perfect fit with the Alby is the new Bruce jean which we simply named for all the world’s ‘Bruces’. Its cut is perfectly easy, natural, straight and loose-ish. Bruce, like all our denim comes from the best Italian mill, uses organic cotton and low water natural indigo dyeing and is made in Lazio, Italy. Bruce has a button fly and comes in the perfect aged-out mid wash.

In knitwear we revisit two P Johnson cotton yarn favourites in new shades - the Yachtie and the slightly loftier and washed back Cable Yachtie. In the lightweight Yachtie we have added a chocolate shade and a washed denim blue to accompany the regular navy and white. In cable we have added enzyme washed buttery yellow, a powdery blue and navy. Wear them with your Carpenter shorts, to which this season we have added the same buttery yellow to the mix of navy, stone and white.

We haven’t forgotten dinner at the marina. The P Johnson slack suit is back in the cleanest, barely bone-coloured cotton canvas and of course navy. These low-key, jaunty travel suits will take you anywhere without forsaking elegance - light, fresh, pliable and easily worn as separates, they await your next maritime or other adventure.
